The USA Rice Federation is sponsoring a National Rice Month (NRM) scholarship contest this September for high school juniors and seniors whose families are directly involved in the rice industry. The contest will be held in the six major rice-growing states of Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Texas.

To qualify to win a USA Rice National Rice Month Scholarship, students must run a promotion campaign in their local community during September with U.S.-grown rice as the central theme.

The NRM Scholarship Program offers six prizes, one for each of the six major-rice producing states. One state winner will be named the national grand prize recipient and will receive a total scholarship award of $5,000. Winners for the five remaining states will receive a $1,000 scholarship award.

The national winner also wins an expense-paid trip in December with the recipient's chaperone to the USA Rice Outlook Conference in Las Vegas, Nev., for the scholarship presentation.

Initiated by an act of Congress in 1991, September marks the 16th annual National Rice Month celebration. For more information and a scholarship contest entry form, see the Industry Affairs page on www.usarice.com, or call Randy Jemison (337) 738-7009 or Chuck Wilson at (870) 673-7541.
