In 1928, the University of California sponsored a train to take researchers out to the growers so they could share the knowledge they had amassed in research projects. That concept has now been revived — but now transportation is by pickup and SUV instead of rail.
The string of recent meetings was sponsored in part by the American Vineyard Foundation. At Paso Robles, the first stop, Jerry Lohr with J. Lohr Vineyards helped underwrite the expense of the meeting with an additional donation. Other stops have included Lodi, and the road show will continue to Fresno in late June and Santa Rosa in August.
