- Setton’s roasted and salted in-shell pistachios have earned the American Heart Association’s “Heart-Check Mark” seal, meaning they are recognized as heart-healthy by the association’s food certification program.
Expanding its commitment to heart health and heart-healthy foods, New York-area employees of Setton International Foods Inc. participated in the Long Island Heart Walk held Sept. 23. Setton’s roasted and salted in-shell pistachios have earned the American Heart Association’s “Heart-Check Mark” seal, meaning they are recognized as heart-healthy by the association’s food certification program.
The Setton team, which included about 30 walkers, raised over $8,000 for the American Heart Association. The motivated Setton walkers donned team shirts and launched down the walk route Sunday morning. Setton also donated thousands of 3-ounce bags of pistachios for walkers to enjoy.
“Setton is extremely proud to have been a part of the walk and to have employees participate and support an organization that is near and dear to our hearts,” said Mia Cohen, chief operating officer for Setton International Foods. “Joining the walk was very meaningful to us and was a great team-building event.”
Setton is proud that its products bear the Heart Association’s seal which helps consumers live a healthier lifestyle by assisting them to quickly and easily identify heart-healthy foods. Scientific evidence suggests that eating 1.5 ounces a day of most nuts, including pistachios, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.
Setton’s products are also listed on the American Heart Association’s website.
With the help of companies like Setton, the 2012 Long Island Heart Walk raised approximately $540,000. The walk aims to increase awareness about the importance of physical activity and how heart health impacts healthcare costs.
“Supporting an organization like the American Heart Association is natural for us because pistachios are not only good for your heart, but are loaded with vitamins and minerals,” Cohen noted.
Consumers who choose Setton pistachios can be assured that the snack is part of a heart-healthy diet, as evidenced by the American Heart Association logo — one of nutrition’s most trusted icons — found prominently on the package.
