T-L Irrigation Co., manufacturer of premier hydraulically driven pivot systems, has teamed with Davis Instruments, a well-known weather instrument maker, to provide weather station pivot management.
The GroWeather system is a state-of-the art, pivot point mounted unit that senses wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, and rainfall. It calculates growing degree days and water transpiration which are critical to irrigation water management.
The information is instantly available on a display screen at the touch of a button.
Data can be saved for permanent weather records.
Data can be charted or graphed for easy analysis.
Data can be downloaded to a laptop computer, or transferred to a home computer via radio or cell phone.
The weather station can be connected to a controller that will shut down irrigation if pre-set conditions are exceeded. Example: If the wind exceeds 25 mph, or if an inch of rain falls, the system will stop pumping water.
Russ Heilig of Davis Instruments says, “Our weather station delivers a lot for the money. It has the same accuracy of systems costing three times as much.”
Heilig believes there is a definite advantage in being able to manage irrigation from actual weather circumstances. An irrigator can save water and lots of it. The initial investment of about $1,300 can be paid back in short order.
