Sonoma County Grape Growers Association’s 15th Annual Dollars and $ense Seminar will focus on issues important specifically to Sonoma County growers.

This year’s program on Jan. 18 at the Luther Burbank Center will include the local market outlook for 2006: Brian Clements and Bill Turrentine, both of Turrentine Brokerage, will provide insights into the impacts of the large 2005 crop on grape demand in 2006 and beyond. Was the increased interest in bulk wine production a one-time event or the beginning of a new trend for Sonoma County grape growers?

Roger Wasson, Wasson & Associates, and former president of the California Strawberry Commission and California Almond Board, will share his experiences with grower-supported commissions and marketing orders. Duff Bevill will lead a panel, including Rodney Schatz of R & G Schatz Farms in Lodi, to provide grower perspectives on commissions. This session will allow growers to learn how grower-funded marketing and research have increased grower returns and product competitiveness.
