WHEP program a win-win for rice, birds


Rice producers and waterbird enthusiasts in California are utilizing a Natural Resources Conservation Service Program for commercial rice production and a habitat for migratory birds in the Sacramento and northern San Joaquin valleys. Western Farm Press Editor Cary Blake learns about the Waterbird Habitat Enhancement Program from Tim Hermansen, a NRCS wildlife biologist in Colusa, Calif.
