Rice farmers impact economy

Rice farmers may be small in numbers but the rice industry has a significant impact on the national economy because of the relatively high expense of putting in a rice crop and the potential returns. That’s something for rice producers to be proud of and to make known when Congress begins writing the next farm bill. Texas A&M University’s Joe Outlaw discussed a report prepared by the Agricultural and Food Policy Center on the impact of U.S. rice at the USA Rice Outlook Conference in Biloxi, Miss.
