Arizona Durum wheat growers are expected to harvest 372,000 tons this year from 124,000 acres, a decrease of 15 percent last year.

The yield is estimated at 6,000 pounds per acre, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service’s (NASS) Phoenix, Ariz., Field Office.

Barley growers should harvest 135,000 tons this year from 45,000 acres, an increase of 17 percent from last year.

Corn planted for all purposes is estimated at 45,000 acres, down 5,000 acres last year. Corn for grain is estimated at 10,000 acres, 5,000 less than last year, NASS reported.

Sorghum planted for all purposes is estimated at 50,000 acres, a decrease of 7,000 acres from last year. Sorghum for grain is about 15,000 acres, down 12,000 acres from last year.

Harvested alfalfa hay is estimated from 270,000 acres, up 4 percent from last year. All other hay for harvest is estimated at 30,000 acres, down 5,000 acres from last year.

Acreage planted to upland cotton is estimated at 140,000, up 5,000 acres from last year and 10,000 acres more than the March intentions. American-Pima plantings at 1,000 acres are 200 acres higher than last year.
