According to USDA’s latest report on crop progress, 12 percent of the nation’s rice crop had been harvested by the end of August, compared to 23 percent at the same time last year and a five-year average of 20 percent.

Seventy-one percent of the U.S. rice crop is listed in good to excellent condition, according to USDA.

Bolls are starting to open in the nation’s cotton crop. At 21 percent open, the nation is behind last year’s open boll percentage for this time of 32 percent, and a five-year average of 28 percent.

Twenty-five percent of the U.S. sorghum crop is now harvested, right at the five-year average.

The condition of the U.S. corn crop continues to improve with only 13 percent in poor to very poor shape. Eighty-seven percent of the U.S crop is listed in fair or better condition, including 46 percent listed in good shape.
