The registration deadline for the 2008 California Alfalfa & Forage Symposium being held in conjunction with the Western Alfalfa Seed Conference has been extended one week to Nov. 10, 2008.

The events will be held Dec. 2-4 at the Town and Country Hotel Resort Hotel and Convention Center in San Diego, Calif. About 350 people have registered along with about 60 exhibitors. Almost 50 talks are planned.

A pre-symposium tour of farmland in the Imperial Valley in the low desert of California will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Wednesday’s (Dec. 3) symposium agenda will include reports on dairy and forage industry trends, seed industry trends, and biotech crops. Breakout sessions will focus on: pest management in alfalfa; irrigation and water management, manure, and tillage; producing quality alfalfa seed; and corn, sorghum, sudan and tef as forage crops. A hay grower’s auction will be held in the evening.

Thursday’s sessions, Dec. 4, will focus on equipment innovations, water, and biofuels; plus water, fertilizers, and food security.
