The Arizona Agri-Weekly report from the National Agricultural Statistics Service in Phoenix, Ariz., for the week ending Dec. 12.
Cotton harvesting is 80 percent complete, behind last year at 91 percent, and behind the five-year average of 87 percent.
Most alfalfa is in fair-to-excellent condition. Harvesting is active on over half of Arizona’s acreage. Sheeping off is underway in many areas.
Range and pasture conditions vary from very poor to good. Last year at this time, 85 percent was very poor to poor. Currently, 36 percent is rated very poor to poor.
Arizona vegetables, fruit, and specialty crops
Central Arizona growers shipped bok choy, broccoli, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, cilantro, kale greens, and parsley.
Western Arizona growers shipped arugula, bok choy, broccoli, cabbage, cantaloupes, cauliflower, celery, Chinese cabbage, cilantro, endive, escarole, frisee, honeydews, kale greens, Boston, green leaf, red leaf, romaine, and other lettuce, parsley, and spinach.
Temperatures were above average across Arizona for the week, ranging from 5 degrees above normal at Parker to 10 degrees above normal at Flagstaff, Marana, and Prescott.
The highest temperature of the week was 84 degrees at Roll. The lowest reading at 13 degrees occurred at Canyon De Chelly and St. Johns.
No precipitation was recorded at the 22 weather stations.
