A top cotton specialist and regional field scout will provide San Joaquin Valley cotton growers late-season strategy for achieving a successful fall harvest during a Sept. 7 field day near Firebaugh.
The event, scheduled from 10-11:30 a.m. at the McCurdy Farm, will feature leading University of California Cooperative Extension cotton specialist Dan Munk and field scout Luis Gallegos. They will update farmers about timely cotton termination and integrated pest management practices to avoid sticky cotton and other pest issues.
Directions are available in the events section of the Sustainable Cotton Project’s website – www.sustainablecotton.org. An hour and a half of continuing education credits have been applied for.
The field day is sponsored by the San Joaquin Sustainable Farming Project, a program under the direction the SCP, a California nonprofit that has worked with valley growers to produce environmentally friendly Cleaner Cotton to the consumer market.
