Accomplishments in the almond industry over the past 50 years since the founding of the Almond Board of California will be commemorated at the 28th Annual Almond Industry Conference and Trade Show on Dec. 6 and 7, 2000 in Modesto at the DoubleTree/Modesto Centre Plaza.
The conference will open with a nostalgic look at the past, then move into its traditional two-day format, with the first day featuring new information on the marketing opportunities for almonds based upon health and nutrition benefits, a look at current international trade issues, and a special report on Almond Board domestic and international marketing programs.
Morning presentations will include "Almonds: A Very Healthy Market - Trends, Timing & Tracks for True Growth," by Dr. Elizabeth Sloan, Ph.D president of Sloan Trends & Solutions, Inc., and "Selling the Almond Health & Nutrition Story," by Bill Layden, Porter Novelli Public Relations, Washington, D.C.
A special report on Almond Board marketing programs will take place in the afternoon, with a look at domestic public relations and advertising, foodservice, school lunch, and international programs carried out by the Almond Board of California.
The second day program will feature an all-day series of information sessions presenting the latest findings on production research affecting the almond industry.
This year's program features a Special Forum on Water Quality, including a presentation on the CalFed project organized by Dr. Frank Zalom, UC Statewide IPM program director, and including presentations by several key UC researchers. Parry Klassen, Sacramento River Water Project consultant, will discuss key Best Management Practices (BMP) growers can implement immediately to assist in protecting waterways.
An afternoon poster session will provide an opportunity for conference attendees to discuss production research project details with researchers.
For the first time this year, Certified Crop Advisor Program (CCA) credits will be available in addition to Private Applicator (PA) and Pest Control Advisor (PCA) credits offered annually. Registration for CCA, PA and PCA credits will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the second day of the conference, Dec. 7.
The trade show will feature more than 25 exhibitors displaying products and services for the almond industry and will run from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. on both days.
