Paramount Citrus, a subsidiary of Roll International has bought the majority of Dole Food Co.'s California and Arizona citrus assets for approximately $55 million.

Under the agreement, Paramount Citrus will acquire Dole assets that include packing houses in Ventura, Redlands and the San Joaquin Valley; approximately 3,912 acres of farming property located throughout Central California; and S&J Farm Management Co. Dole will retain ownership interest in selected agricultural properties that will be managed by Paramount Citrus.

"We are pleased to be able to add these assets to our portfolio," says Leslie Lane, chief financial officer for Paramount Citrus. "Because citrus is our core business, we believe that we have the opportunity to maximize the potential of these assets," says Lane.

In buying Dole's citrus operation, Paramount becomes the largest integrated grower, packer and marketer of fresh citrus in the United States. The company handles more than 23,000 acres of Navel and Valencia oranges, lemons, and minneola tangerines throughout Central and Southern California.

Paramount is the largest member of the Sunkist Growers Marketing Cooperative.

Dole Food Co., Inc., with 1999 revenues of $5.1 billion, is the world's largest producer and marketer of fresh fruit, fresh vegetables and fresh-cut flowers, and markets a growing line of packaged foods.
