California, Arizona citrus production forecast

Citrus production in California is forecast as follows: lemons, 19 million boxes, up 12 percent; grapefruit, 4.5 million boxes, down 21 percent; Valencia oranges, 12 million boxes, down 25 percent; navel and miscellaneous oranges, 34.5 million boxes, down 29 percent; and tangerines, 7 million boxes, up 23 percent, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Arizona’s citrus crop for 2008-09 is forecast as follows: lemons, 2.5 million boxes, up 67 percent from last season; grapefruit, 150,000 boxes, up 50 percent from last season; Valencia oranges, 100,000 boxes, down 33 percent; navel and miscellaneous oranges, 150,000 boxes, down 35 percent; and tangerines, 250,000 boxes, down 37 percent.
