The Wine Group buys Almaden and Inglenook brands

The Wine Group LLC has purchased two of America's oldest wine brands and an associated winery from Constellation Brands Inc.
"We are excited and pleased to welcome the Madera Winery and its historic Almaden and Inglenook brands into The Wine Group family," stated David B. Kent, TWG chief executive officer. "These time-honored brands — founded in 1852 and 1879, respectively — still rank among the most popular and best-selling wines in America. Good stewardship of California's winemaking legacy brands is both a passion and a core competency of TWG," Kent continued, "and we plan to build upon the heritage of Almaden and Inglenook to make them even more relevant to today's wine consumer. As an organization, we have experienced tremendous success in refreshing, revitalizing and sometimes reinventing trusted brands such as these, and they will provide us the opportunity to prove ourselves once again."
The Wine Group is a San Francisco based privately-held company that produces such well known brands as Franzia, Concannon, Big House, Glen Ellen, Corbett Canyon, Foxhorn, Fish Eye, Pinot Evil, Mogen David, Casarsa, and Tribuno. Founded in 1981 by a management buy-out of the wine assets of The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of New York, The Wine Group is now California's second and the world's third largest wine producer by volume.
