Spring citrus meeting scheduled for March 25 in Bakersfield, Calif.

The Annual Kern Spring Citrus Meeting is slated for March 25 from 1:00 – 4:45 p.m., at the University of California Cooperative Extension conference room, 1031 S. Mt. Vernon Ave., Bakersfield, Calif.

Topics to be discussed include:

Clementines, Murcotts and plant growth regulators – Carol Lovatt, professor, plant physiologist, Dept. of Botany and Plant Science, UC Riverside;

Letting fruit acceptability tell us where to set the minimum maturity standard for navel oranges – Mary Lu Arpaia, UC Subtropical Horticulture Extension specialist, Kearney Ag Center;

New insecticides in citrus – Beth Grafton-Cardwell, UC Entomology Extension specialist, Kearney Ag Center;

Pros and cons of deficit irrigation in mid and late season navel oranges – David Goldhamer, UC Water Management Extension specialist, Kearney Ag Center;

Update on citrus leafminer and its movement into Kern County – David Haviland, farm advisor, UCCE Kern County; Late season irrigation stress on yield and fruit quality of Beck navel oranges - Craig Kallsen, farm advisor, UCCE Kern County.
