The Bureau of Reclamation began levee repair work at Prospect Island on October 4, 2007. A contract was awarded to DD-M Crane and Rigging of Alameda, Calif., to construct the repairs, which will include closing two levee breaks on federal property, repairing about 600 feet of side-slope damage on one of the levees, unwatering the federal property, and repairing bank erosion damage to private property adjacent to one of the breaks. The work is expected to take about 2.5 months to complete, and access to the federal property will remain closed during this time....
