2008 California field crop value pegged at $4.19 billion

The estimated value of California’s 2008 field crop production was $4.19 billion dollars, that’s 11 percent above the $3.76 billion dollar value of 2007, according to the National Agricultural Statistic Service’s Sacramento, Calif., field office.
The production of the major field crops in California in 2008 totaled 28.1 million tons, compared to 27.6 million tons in 2007.
The harvested acres of principal crops in 2008 totaled 3.76 million acres, compared to 3.78 million acres harvested in 2007.
Corn for grain, barley, winter wheat, durum wheat, all rice, all types of hay, and dry edible beans increased in total value in 2008.
