CALF celebrates 40 years

The California Agricultural Leadership Foundation (CALF) will celebrate 40 years at its annual conference, Nov. 6-7, at the Hilton Arden West in Sacramento. The theme is “Trust — Earn It. Build It. Keep It.”
The conference will feature educational seminars, the inauguration of Class 40 of the California Agricultural Leadership Program (CALP) and other special events. Alumni, supporters, friends and potential applicants of CALP are invited to attend.
“We’re very excited about this milestone event,” said Loren Booth, chair of the CALF board of directors. “It will be a great opportunity to recognize the legacy of the Ag Leadership Program, welcome a new class and continue providing enrichment opportunities for alumni.”
Conference highlights:
• Educational seminars titled “Trust in Business,” Trust in the Media,” and “Trust in Community.”
•Seminar presentations by Kevin Johnson, mayor of Sacramento; David Schmidt, president and chief executive officer of the International Food Information Council (Washington, D.C.); Joe Barr, news director of Capital Public Radio (Sacramento); and a representative from Wal-Mart.
• A panel presentation exploring the issue of trust using child adoption processes and experiences as a model.
• Invited speakers represent Facebook, Clover Stornetta Farms and the California Latino Legislative Caucus.
• Profiles in Leadership luncheon honoring Ag Leadership alumni that have excelled and become leaders in the agriculture industry and communities.
• Founders’ Celebration honoring the organization’s founders, J.G. Boswell II and Dean Brown, and recognizing the 2009 CALF Honorary Alumni.
Founded in 1969, CALP aims to create leaders who will help ensure the long-term viability of California agriculture, who will think forward, who have the ability to engage and positively influence society, and who can participate in communication networks that enhance California agriculture. CALP has more than 1,000 alumni, including many influential leaders in government, communities and the agricultural industry.
