2009 Almond Pruning Field Day is Feb. 11 in Five Points, Calif.

Almond growers can gain the latest news on pruning almond trees at the 2009 Almond Pruning Field Day on Feb. 11, at the Westside Research and Extension Center in Five Points, Calif.

The agenda includes:

2:00 - Registration, welcome and introduction - Brent Holtz, University of California (UC) Cooperative Extension Farm Advisor, Madera County

2:15 - Dormant pruning first year dormant almond trees - Brent Holtz; Bill Seaman, Seaman Nursery, Chowchilla; and Tim Gertz, Burchell Nursery Inc.

3:00 - Discussion of summer pruning almonds in their second season - Brent Holtz, Bill Seaamn, and Tim Gertz

The Westside Center is located at 17353 West Oakland Ave. The field day is sponsored by UC.

The ABCs of MRLs

American agriculture exports 20 to 30 percent of its production annually. For specific commodities, the percentage is much higher. When recommending and applying pest management products for crops, license Pest Control Advisers (PCAs)  and applicators and farmers must be aware of which products applied are in compliance with Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) established by foreign customers. This CE course details the MRL issue and why compliance is critical to marketing into world trade.
