Charles Crabb selected new director of education for California Agricultural Leadership Foundation

Dr. A. Charles Crabb has been chosen as director of education for the California Agricultural Leadership Foundation. He most recently served as manager of the California Farm Bureau Federation’s governmental affairs division and is the former dean of agriculture at California State University, Chico.

“We are thrilled to have someone with Charlie’s extensive experience in education and knowledge of California agriculture in this important role,” said Foundation President and CEO Michael Barr. “Our mission is to enhance the long-term viability of California agriculture through leadership development. Charlie at the helm of our education team ensures this mission continues forward with insight and energy.” Crabb joins the Foundation on November 1.

Crabb spent nearly two decades in various positions at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. For 11 years he taught in the crop science department and for two years was an associate dean of the College of Agriculture. From 1991 to 1995, he served as associate vice president for academic resources. After his career at Cal Poly, Crabb became a regional director for the University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources. He then served as agriculture dean at Chico State from 1999 to 2006.

Crabb earned his bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis, and his master’s degree from Bowling Green State University. A longtime and tireless advocate of Ag Leadership, Crabb was recognized as an Ag Leadership Honorary Member in 2006. Previous recipients of the award include Leon Panetta, James G. Boswell, Robert and Margrit Mondavi, and George Gomes.

“I have a deep respect for the work of the California Agricultural Leadership Foundation,” said Crabb. “I consider it an honor to be asked to help continue the tradition of program excellence. I look forward to serving agriculture in this new role.”
