Beet, beans, safflower acreages down

California growers have planted and intend to plant 39,500 acres to sugar beets, down 9 percent from last year’s total planted acreage.
An estimated 60,000 acres in California were seeded to dry edible beans for the 2007 season, down 10 percent from last year’s total.
California safflower growers planted 50,000 acres this season. Safflower acreage is down 11 percent from last year’s total.
