California sugar beets

California sugar beet producers have planted or intend to plant almost 40,000 acres this season, down 9 percent from the 2006 crop year. Nationally, the area planted to sugar beets for the 2007 crop year is expected to total 1.29 million acres, 5 percent below the 2006 planted acreage.
