Western Farm Press online CE courses accredited for 2008 hours

Jan 2, 2008 10:11 AM

The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) and the Arizona Department of Agriculture (ADA) have approved nine Western Farm Press online continuing education (CE) courses for a total of 32 hours in both states for 2008.

All nine courses also are accredited by the American Society of Agronomy Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) continuing education program for California and Arizona CCAs as well.

The courses are available on the Western Farm Press (www.westernfarmpress.com) and the California Association of Pest Control Advisers (www.capca.com) Web sites.

All are free and are accredited for all DPR licensing categories and are approved for all who hold Arizona agricultural pest control credentials.

Sponsoring these online courses with Western Farm Press are MANA, the Almond Board of California, Chemtura, DuPont Crop Protection, Valent, and Monsanto.

Nine CEU courses are accredited for 20 hours by DPR. Three courses offer a total of five hours in laws and regulations. Five of those nine courses are accredited for 12 CEUs by ADA.

With the 2008 accreditation, the courses can be repeated by licensees to meet continuing education requirements.

Western Farm Press’ educational and information technology departments will be taking some of the courses down early this year for minor revisions and update of CE course numbers. If the course is not available when you log on to the link, wait a few days and try again for that specific course. All of the courses will not be down at the same time so if one is not available, go to another course link.

Western Farm Press began the online continuing education program with its first course in August 2004. Since then, about 12,000 courses have been completed online for hours/units. In 2007 alone, almost 5,000 courses have been completed by DPR and ADA licensees.

Accredited in California for 2008 are:

–Lepidopterous Pest Management/Pesticide Safety Review for one hour of DPR laws and regs and one hour in the DPR “Other” category.

–Disease Management for California Almond Production for two hours of DPR “Other” category credit.

–Insecticide Resistance Management in Agronomic and Row Crops for three DPR CEUs.

–The Role of Copper in Disease Control for two DPR CEUs. --California Groundwater Protection Regulations for two hours of DPR laws and regulations.

–Grape Powdery Mildew Control in California Vineyards for two CEUs in the “Other” category.

–Weed Resistance Management in Agronomic Crops and Trees, Nuts and Vines for three hours in the “Other” DPR category.

ADA has accredited five of these for Arizona hours, including Spray Drift (2 credit hours); Lepidopterous Pests (2 hours); Insecticide Resistance Management (3 hours); Weed Resistance Management (3 hours) and Copper Disease Control (2 hours).

The courses are easy to maneuver through online. Instructions are clearly outlined on each course. Upon successful completion of the course, Western Farm Press is notified via e-mail at a dedicated Farm Press mailbox, and the necessary paperwork is submitted to DPR, ADA, CCA, or the local California county agricultural commissioner for an individual’s credit hours.
