LA Food Dialogues focus on agriculture, June 20-21

Past Event:

The U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance’s second Food Dialogues event – “Lights, Camera, Food: Perceptions and Realities of Farming and Ranching in America” – is set for next Wednesday and Thursday in Los Angeles.

The two-day event will include four separate discussions that bring together farmers and ranchers with entertainment movers and shakers, chefs, academics, large restaurant operators, journalists and local leaders.

Those unable to attend in person are encouraged to participate online by watching some events live, participating in accompanying chats on Twitter and submitting feedback and questions via Twitter and Facebook.

Events are slated to include:

“Hollywood and “Vine”: The Intersection of Pop Culture and Food Production

Wednesday, June 20, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. PDT

George Motz, documentarian, host of Travel Channel’s Made In America, and director of the Food Film Festival, will moderate this panel focusing on the portrayal of food and agriculture in popular culture.

This event will be live-streamed online at www.fooddialogues.com.

Meeting of the Minds: Touring Hollywood’s Urban Farm

Wednesday, June 20, 2 to 4 p.m. PDT

Urban farm expert and host of the syndicated Saturday Food Chain radio talk show Michael Olson will moderate this panel focused the role urban farms play in the communities where they operate.

This panel will be live tweeted using the hashtag #FoodD and can be tracked on Twitter by following @USFRA.

The event will also be recorded, with full video posted online later in the month.

The Great Debate: Science, Technology and Food

Thursday, June 21, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. PDT

Long-time The New Yorker journalist and Denialism author Michael Specter will lead a panel of leading scientists and academics, farmers and thought leaders, including California Secretary of Agriculture Karen Ross, in a conversation about the role science and technology play in agriculture.

This event will be live-streamed online at www.fooddialogues.com.

The REAL Chef Challenge: Understanding How Food is Grown and Raised

Thursday, June 21, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. PDT

Laura McIntosh, host and executive producer of Bringing it Home with Laura McIntosh, will moderate this discussion of how food sourcing impacts farmers’ and chefs’ work to grow, raise, buy and serve healthy choices for people everywhere.

This panel will be live tweeted using the hashtag #FoodD and can be tracked on Twitter by following @USFRA.

The event will also be recorded, with full video posted online later in the month.

NAWG is an affiliate member of USFRA, which aims to open dialogue between farmers and their urban customers about agriculture and food issues.
