California table grape growers are offering scholarships to the industry’s field workers and their children in California’s San Joaquin and Coachella valleys.

This includes three $20,000 scholarships to attend four-year universities in California for the 2012-13 school year. Also, new this year, four additional $3,500 scholarships are available to attend two-year programs (trade school, community or junior college) in California.

The application deadline is Friday, March 9, 2012. Field workers employed in the 2011 or 2012 California table grape harvest or their children may apply. Applicants must be high school graduates or high school seniors graduating in 2012. Applications are available for download at www.grapesfromcalifornia.com/scholarships. The California Table Grape Workers Scholarship program was created in 1985. The program has since awarded nearly 100 scholarships to field workers from the table grape growing regions of California.

“The table grape growers in California volunteer their time and service for associations, boards and charitable organizations,” said Kathleen Nave, president of the commission. “The scholarship program is another way they show their support for the communities where they live and work.”
