The California Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement (LGMA) Advisory Board has elected Jamie Strachan of Growers Express LLC as the group’s new chair.

Strachan replaces Joe Pezzini, the LGMA’s first advisory chair.

Ryan Talley of Talley Farms is the group’s new vice chairman. Ron Ratto of Ratto Bros. Inc. is the treasurer.

Strachan appointed Verlea Kellogg of Fresh Express as the LGMA communications committee chair; Tom Mack as the technical committee chair; and Victor Tognazzini of Gold Coast Packing as compliance subcommittee chair.

“We are pleased to see such a smooth turnover,” said Scott Horsfall, LGMA chief executive officer. “Through the commitment of this industry, the LGMA is working to protect public health by establishing an enhanced culture of food safety on California leafy greens farms.”

“While we now have the experience of three years behind us, the program is still new and evolving and it continues to be extremely important for the leadership of the California leafy greens industry to be involved,” Horsfall said. “We are very fortunate to have this level of industry involvement in the LGMA.”

Strachan served on the LGMA board as vice chairman for the last two years and as treasurer. He is the president and CEO of Salinas-based Growers Express.

New officers and committee leaders will serve for the fiscal year which began April 1, 2010.
