Forecast: California’s prune production up

California's 2006 prune (dried plums) production is forecast at 170,000 thousand dried tons, up 17 percent from the June 1 forecast and 89 percent above the heat-damaged 2005 crop.

This year's prune crop experienced an unseasonable rainy period during bloom, which hampered pollination and led to a small fruit set statewide. As the season progressed, the crop prospects improved.
