California Farm Equipment Show April 18-19

Vintage tractors of all makes and models will be on display, April 18-19, as the 17th annual California Antique Farm Equipment Show kicks off at the International Agri-Center, Tulare, Calif.
Show hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday.
General admission is $8; Children 12 and under are free.
The show is one of California’s largest gatherings of antique tractors and farm equipment in California and the West.
The show is also an event for the entire family with activities such as parades, tractor demonstrations, contests and activities for children.
“Most importantly, the show educates the public in order to create an understanding and appreciation of our region’s rich broad-based agricultural heritage,” said Diane Mathis, 2009 chairwoman.
Each year exhibitors participate in the show’s antique truck and tractor parade where more than 400 tractors, which drive down Median Street.
The Kiddie Korral, located in Pavilion C, will be the children’s area for fun activities, including bounce house, Penny Trade and other games. Also scheduled is the annual Pedal Tractor Pull.
Swapping antique collectibles, tractor manuals, old engine parts, clothing, jewelry, and other unique items has become popular at California Antique Farm Equipment Show. Arts and crafts exhibits are also featured at the show. Exhibitors set up shop in the International Agri-Center’s Pavilion C, located on the show grounds.
“Participants sell everything from clothing and jewelry to homemade soy candles and authentic arts in this section of the show,” Mathis said.
This year a fully restored 1948 Allis Chalmers tractor will be given away. The “starter” tractor was purchased at the 2007 CAFES. Ron Golbeck and Stan Nikkel have worked to restore the tractor.
“There’s about $3,200 in cash plus labor in the tractor. It looks great, has all new tires and a complete engine overhaul,” Golbeck said.
Tickets are $1 each. Proceeds benefit the Agri-Center’s Antique Farm Equipment Museum.
The winner will be drawn during the annual steak BBQ dinner on Saturday night. If the winner does not choose to take the tractor home, they may choose a $1,200 prize.
