Correction: Error in E. Coli studies report

The story appearing on page 18 of the May 17, 2008 issue of Western Farm Press erroneously reported that the nonpathogenic form of E. coli used in field studies was not harmful to humans.

Although this nonpathogenic strain of E. coli does not cause the devastating diseases and deaths caused by the O157:H7 strain, it should not be considered harmless to people, according to Steve Koike, Monterey County farm advisor, who conducted the studies.
