The U.S. Grains Council issued a news release Oct. 10, regarding the Japan Starch and Sweeteners Industry Association (JSSIA) stance on providing non-biotech corn to its Japanese food industry customers. Subsequently, JSSIA provided the council's Tokyo office with clarification regarding the content and intent of the letter it sent to its customers regarding this issue. In the letter, JSSIA indicated to its customers that, although it is committed to meeting their needs to the extent possible, cost and logistical considerations are making it increasingly difficult to fully supply the Japanese starch and sweetener industry with non-biotech corn.
