California sugar beet '06 forecast down 10 percent from '05

The USDA-NASS, California Field Office estimates the 2006 California sugar beet production forecast is 1.5 million tons, up slightly from the August forecast, but down 10 percent from last season. Harvested acreage remains unchanged from last month with 43.000 thousand acres, resulting in a yield of 36.0 tons per acre.
