Weak high pressure brought dry and mild weather to California at the start of the week (Sept. 13).  The high pressure shifted eastward Wednesday as a low pressure trough drove a Pacific frontal system towards the state.

By Thursday, low pressure settled over northern California while southern California remained under relatively higher pressure. Significant rain spread along the North Coast on Friday, in advance of the cold front which moved across the region over the weekend. The front brought heavy rain to the coast but much lighter amounts inland.

Temperatures in the northern California were generally cooler than normal for the second part of the week. Southern California remained dry with near seasonal temperatures through the week.
