April 2 is the date for the Water and Irrigation Management Seminar and Field Day for Berry Crops at the University of California South Coast Research and Extension Center, 7601 Irvine Blvd., Irvine, Calif.  92618.

The event will focus on blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries.

8:00 - Welcome and overview of irrigation research for blueberry and strawberry production at South Coast REC – Ramiro Lobo, UCCE San Diego County

8:20 - Irrigation management for blueberry production in Valley Center – Gary Bender, UCCE San Diego County

8:40 - Irrigation management for blueberry and blackberry production in the Central Valley – Manuel Jimenez, UCCE Emeritus, Tulare County

9:30 - Impacts of irrigation levels on fruit quality of blackberry and strawberry under South Bay conditions – Aziz Baameur, UCCE Santa Clara County

10:00 – Break - blueberry tasting

10:30 - Irrigation and salt management for strawberry production in Ventura County – Oleg Daugovish - UCCE Ventura County

11:15 - Effects of irrigation levels on quality and postharvest management of berry crops – Beth Mitcham, UC Davis           

Noon - Field tour: demonstration of moisture-sensing equipment, blueberry pruning, and blueberry tasting.

1:30 - Adjourn

Online registration is $10 if paid by March 30. The fee is $20 at the door if space allows.
