The following is the latest Arizona Agri-Weekly report from the National Agricultural Statistics Service’s Phoenix, Ariz., Field Office.
Durum wheat and barley emergence is virtually complete. Cotton planting is underway in western Arizona.
Alfalfa conditions are mostly good. Harvesting is active on over two-thirds of the acreage. Range and pasture conditions vary from very poor to good depending on the location. Most areas are in fair to good condition.
Vegetable, fruit, and specialty crops
Central Arizona growers shipped bok choy, red and green cabbage, cilantro, greens, parsley, and spinach.
Western Arizona growers shipped anise, arugula, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cilantro, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, citrus, endive, escarole, frisee, greens, kale, Boston, iceberg, and romaine lettuce, and green leaf, red leaf lettuce, bok choy, parsley, Swiss chard and spinach.
Temperatures were mostly above normal across Arizona for the week ending March 21, ranging from 4 degrees below normal at Canyon De Chelly and Saint Johns to 8 degrees above normal at Grand Canyon.
The highest temperature of the week was 87 degrees at various locations and the lowest reading at 14 degrees occurred at Grand Canyon.
Precipitation was reported at 4 of the 22 stations this week. Winslow received the lowest at .01 inches of precipitation and Safford received the most at .09 inches of precipitation.
