All hay acreage virtually unchanged; alfalfa down 10 percent

California growers expected to harvest 1.57 million acres of all hay in 2007, down 1 percent from 2006, according to USDA/NASS.

Of the total, alfalfa is expected to be harvested from 950,000 acres, 10 percent below last year.

All other hay is estimated to be harvested on 620,000 acres, up 17 percent from last year’s total.
