Alfalfa variety ratings leaflet selling fast

Copies of the 2000-01 “Fall Dormancy & Pest Resistance Ratings for Alfalfa Varieties” released last fall are selling quickly. The leaflet features a new square, booklet-type format with a reader-friendly layout. Alfalfa growers can use this publication to select varieties that are right for them.

More than 50 marketers and 230 alfalfa varieties are listed in the publication.

The leaflet lists the alfalfa varieties' fall dormancy and pest resistance ratings for the current year from information taken from the Association of Official Seed Certifying Agencies (AOSCA) and the National Alfalfa Variety Review Board (NAVRB) Report.

The new variety leaflet for the 2001-02 growing season is in production now. Current copies of the leaflet are in short supply, so get them while supplies last. Copies are available for 50 cents each by calling the Alfalfa Council at (816) 891-0579 or visiting the Web site at www.alfalfa.org.

The Alfalfa Council is a non-profit organization founded in 1953. During its history, the council has developed a wealth of alfalfa materials and programs, including videos, slide sets, advertising, and printed materials, all promoting “A better understanding and wider use of alfalfa” throughout the United States. The council also sponsors tours of alfalfa seed and forage production areas, as well as forums and symposia for farmers and scientists.
